Guided tours start on the hour and last approximately 45 minutes, with the final tour departing at 3:00pm. Prefer to explore at your own pace? Self-guided visits are welcome anytime during museum hours.

Yes! We have a variety of options to meet your group's needs. Review our optiosn below and reach out to staff with any additional questions!

Guided Group Tours
Group Tours are available for groups of 15 or more. To reserve a guided tour, please contact the museum at least four weeks prior to your visit.

Our guided tours can be customized to fit your group’s interests or age range, making for an enriching and engaging experience. We highly recommend them for the best possible visit!

Tours typically last about an hour, with additional time available to explore other areas of the museum afterward. Guided tours are included with general admission.

Youth Groups
Youth group visits of 40 or more children are eligible to book our Field Trips program, a hands-on activity visit available in the spring and fall seasons. Please visit our School Field Trips page for details and rates. Summer groups can reserve self-guided visits during our Time Travelers programs for engaging hands-on activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Visit our Time Travelers page for details.

Self-Guided Groups
Groups of 15 or more who plan to self-guide the museum without staff are still asked to notify the museum ahead of your visit to ensure there are no other schedule conflicts that would impact your visit and to ensure staff can give you a full welcome and orientation.

Yes! Shawnee Town 1929 proudly participates in Museums for All, a national program that promotes museum access for all visitors. Guests receiving SNAP benefits can enjoy free general admission by presenting an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card at the Visitor Center during open hours.

Shawnee Town 1929 is a living history museum where the past comes to life! Step back in time and explore what a day in a 1920s farm town was really like. Stroll through over 10 carefully recreated historic buildings, each filled with authentic artifacts and immersive exhibits that tell the story of Shawnee’s farming and business community.

Children and families will love shopping for old-fashioned goods at Garrett’s Grocery Store, saying hello to our friendly chickens at the farmstead, or trying their hand at gardening just like families did a century ago. There's always something new to discover, whether you’re taking a guided tour, exploring at your own pace, or attending one of our hands-on programs and special events.

Shawnee Town 1929 strives to be an accessible and welcoming place for all visitors.

Mobility
-Most public exhibit areas are wheelchair accessible.
-The 1929 Town exhibits have paved sidewalks and low-threshold doorways.
-The Farmstead is accessible via a packed gravel road with a slight incline. --The farmhouse has an ADA ramp and an accessible first floor. Gardens and outbuildings have flat grass pathways.
-The Town Hall rental facility is fully ADA-accessible.
-Visitors may request a ride in the museum’s utility vehicle (not wheelchair accessible) for assistance navigating the grounds.

Restrooms & Changing Stations
-Gendered and family restrooms are fully ADA-accessible.
-Changing tables are available in the men's and women's pavilion restrooms, the Visitor Center family restroom, and one of the Workshop bathrooms. The Town Hall women’s restroom also has a changing table.

Color Accessibility
-EnChroma glasses for deutan (red/green) color blindness are available to borrow at the Visitor Center, first-come, first-served.

Sensory Sensitivity
-Museum noise levels vary—some days are quiet, while others may have group tours or programs. Call ahead for recommendations on the best times to visit.
-The Service Station has a radio playing.
-As an open-air museum, exhibits are accessible via outdoor pathways with varying brightness and shade.

ASL & Low Vision Tours
-ASL Tours – Available with advance request (14 days' notice). Tours include hands-on artifact interactions.
-Blind & Low Vision Tours – Guided tours with additional verbal descriptions and artifact handling available upon request (14 days' notice).

Service Animals
-Service animals are welcome in all museum areas. Non-service animals are only allowed during designated pet-friendly events.
